Transformer Technical

Why transformer neutral connect with resistance and earthed ???

Ans: Assume, when the transformer is not earthed with resistance and at this situation a short circuit fault occurs. Then, at this time heavy current passes to earth via transformer windings which will cause physical damage to the windings.

But, when a resistance is connected to earth, then under faulty situation the current passing through the winding is minimized to a safe level and the winding is protected from physical damage.

Generally 5 ohms resistance is connected between neutral and earth.

And technically its known as NGR ( neutral grounding resistance )
